Nation Officer Reports
Nation Chief: Kurt “Big Bear” Leibensperger 330-699-4734, 330-606-1944 kurtleib@hotmail.com
Tonka Hey! Thanks to the Cherokee for planning another fun weekend at Camp Y Noah! Even though the forecast was rainy, it turned into a beautiful weekend! It was really fantastic to see all the new braves in so many tribes. Welcome to the Manikiki Nation, and I hope your time in our group will be as good for you as it has been for Andrew and me! Plus, there were many fun events planned for the entire weekend, from Friday night to Sunday morning. Great job to the Cherokee, and also thanks to the Crow for the Nation Games!
Coming up later in June (20th and 21st) is the Green Relay for Life. I personally urge you to support this event. If you're like me, you've lost close family members to cancer, or have friends or family who are personally fighting the disease right now. Statistically speaking, almost all of us will either have cancer personally, or know someone close who does. So, come out for them...the money raised helps with cancer research to fight this vicious disease.
Our nation, in cooperation with the Indian Princesses, will be selling food to raise money for cause. We need your help...please contact our War Chief, John Waller to sign up to help out. Information and sign up are also available on our website, yindianguides.org. Thanks to Jim Cross for lining up the food donations.
Finally, stay tuned for our upcoming events in July and August, a family drive in movie night and our family picnic at Clay's Park.
And remember, all chiefs and council, Longhouse on Tuesday, June 17th at 8pm at the Green YMCA.
War Chief: John “Sits By Fire” Waller 330-867-5726, 330-256-4430 john.waller@wilsontool.com
If the recent Spring Campout didn’t get you ready for summer time, I don’t know what else would. What a great time. We’ve got some great summer time events coming in the next three months. Sammy, Jacob and I hope to see as many of you as possible.
Just a reminder that the Relay for Life is soon approaching in June and we could use some help with our booth for set up, selling brats, popcorn, sno-cones, breakfast and take down. If you can help with any of these phases of the event, it would be greatly appreciated. By the way, we generated roughly $400 last year in food sales to donate to the Relay for Life Group. They were very grateful for our efforts. Have a great summer and see you all soon.
Sachem: Scott “Singin’ Moose” Summers 330-644-9110, 330-606-6965 scotts@rolandus.com
Camp-out was great! Looking forward to Camp Fitch!! Please help out with the relay for life, it’s a great event. Come help cook and sell food, or just come to help set up or tear down, pitch a tent and stay all night, walk the track to show your support!
Medicine Man: Jim “Iron back” Cross 330-245-1326, 330-697-9121 jcross009@neo.rr.com
Big medicine points are still as follows; Comanche tribe is leading by a large margin, followed by Apache tribe, tied for third are Navajo and Mohawk. I need counts for the Xmas service project, I know some of you had provided this but my computer crashed, so please resend.
Story Teller: Dan “Big Rock” Hickman 330-896-7164, 330-472-7010 nhickman3@aol.com
In ages past, our old ones were the storytellers. This was the way things were passed along to the generations that followed. For this reason the aged people made it a point to remember every detail so they could relate it at a later time. They were the word and picture carriers making history and spiritual values alive and important. In recent times we have made our old ones think they are not so important. We spoof their stories and make them feel foolish. The truth is that we are ignorant of what is precious and how to 'a da li he li tse di -- appreciate age. Rigidity can creep in and set even the young mind if there are no soft memories, no laughter, no times too deep for tears. Age is grace -- a time too valuable to waste."
Wampum Bearer: Dwayne “Big Bad Wolf” Haines 330-699-0972, 330-419-1002 dghaines@babcock.com
Another great campout and thanks to the weather. It is amazing to me that while Adam is in the older group, how much we continue to enjoy the campouts. It also appears to me that there is great leadership with the current council and those preparing to step up next year. Look forward to seeing all of the families at the Aeros game.
Tally Keeper: Jeff “Last Hawk” Pearce 330-645-6075, 330-714-7892 jeffp@pearceengineering.com
The camp-out was great; it’s amazing how tired you are when you get home! The Comanche Tribe had a wonderful turn-out, the entire Tribe was there, probably puts us even farther into the lead for Big Medicine!!
Looking forward to the Aeros game and all the other summer events!
And a note to Shawn, Tom and I are still wondering who the next Comanche Chief will be?
Web Spinner: Charles "Kicking Buffalo" Campbell 330-854-3077, 330-264-5383x237 kickingbuffalo@sbcglobal.net
If any tribe is interested in adding content to the website as individual tribe web pages please contact me and we'll get it posted ASAP. As always, if you have pictures from any event, please forward them to me for inclusion on the website. And not to step on the toes of our storyteller, a friend of mine had forwarded the story of the web spinner.
The Spider and the People, an Osage legend
One day, the chief of the Isolated Earth people was hunting in the forest. He was also hunting for a symbol to give life to his people. He came upon the tracks of a huge deer. The chief became very excited.
"Grandfather Deer," he said, "surely you will show yourself to me. You are going to become the symbol of my people."
He began to follow the tracks. His eyes were on nothing else as he followed those tracks, and he ran faster and faster through the forest. Suddenly, he ran right into a huge spider's web that had been strung between the trees, across the trail. When he got up, he was very angry. He struck at the spider who was sitting at the edge of the web. But the spider jumped out of reach. Then the spider spoke to the man.
"Grandson," the spider said, "why do you run through the woods looking at nothing but the ground?"
The chief felt foolish, but he had to answer the spider. "I was following the tracks of a great deer," the chief said. "I am seeking a symbol of strength for my people."
"I can be such a symbol" said the spider.
"How can you be a symbol of strength?" said the chief. "You are small and weak, and I didn't even see you as I followed the great Deer."
"Grandson," said the spider, "look upon me. I am patient. I watch and I wait. Then all things come to me. If your people learn this, they will be strong indeed."
The chief saw that this was so. Thus the Spider became one of the symbols of the people.

Apache: John "Fire Stick" Matheos 330-864-6899, 330-418-3300 jmatheos@peoplesservices.com
Apache! It was great seeing most of you at Camp YNOAH. The boys had a Great time and it was fun for the Dad's as well. Thanks to all the Cherokee for all of their hard work in making the campout such a success. Great job Matt! Reeling in another award winning Lunker, could possibly be an all time tribe record. Kyle and Addison thanks for representing the Apache at the obstacle course you guys flew through it.
Looking forward to seeing you all at the Aeros game!
Happy June Birthdays to Kyle Murgatroyd 12 and Nikulas Albrechta
Arapaho: Paul “Big Foot” Scheatzle 330-832-0304, 330-323-7683 paulscheatzle@hotmail.com
Things are going well with the Arapaho tribe. We are looking forward the upcoming events and can't wait for summer to finally arrive. We're beginning to think about what events we would like to do for next year.
Blackhawk: Todd “Sly Fox” Mellon 330-645-9456 330-819-7762 tmellon@primebusinesssolutions.net
I just wanted to say that the Blackhawk Tribe had a great time at Camp Y Noah. We feel that it was one of the best campouts that we have had. The time that we spent with our families and fellow fathers was fantastic. Thanks again for planning such a great event. We are looking forward to the Aeros game.
Cherokee: Sam “Buffalo Hump” Ewing 330-245-1138, 513-907-9860 samewing@sbcglobal.net
A great big thank you to my fellow Cherokees for hosting the Spring campout at Y-Noah. I certainly could not have done it without the help of my tribe. I heard from several other braves that it was a great campout. Even though it was a little hectic at times, I did spend significant quality time with my son. And in case you didn’t know, I proved once again that fat guys shouldn’t operate canoes.
The Aeros game is next on the agenda and I hope to see you all there. I still have most of the tickets and will get them to you in the near future.
If you haven’t been to the fireworks game, it is quite a treat, so plan to stay all the way until the end. The last 2 years we have been so close to the action that debris from the fireworks rained on our heads. The gathering prior to the game in front of Children’s Hospital is also well worth attending.
See you there

many thanks to Rick “Crazy Cloud” and Spencer “Bright
Spirit” Ausel for hosting! And what a great time at the
campout! The fishing was great, the weather perfect, the
cornhole competition was fierce, and the goats were frisky!
What more could you ask for? Thanks to Shawn “Stomping
Rock” Knisely for providing the chili, thanks to Tucker “Big
Hawk” Pearce and Dominic “Moon Wolf” Poletta for
representing the Comanche at the Nation games, and congratulations to
Logan “Slithering Snake” Knoebel for winning 1st place in

We all had a great time at the campout this past weekend! It is GREAT to have to use sunscreen at the campouts!!! We even had time on the Rock Wall on Sunday to have some dads attempt the wall! Some climbed up and some of us were pulled up!! The laughs and appreciation for our sons making it to the top was special! Although the service and details by Camp Y Noah were not what we had hoped for from past campouts at Y Noah, the camp is still fun and the father son experience was very rewarding! Great job by the Cherokee!!
Happy birthday to our little braves this month, Cole Herrick, Michael Rath, Grant Simmons and Scoty Kingan! We look forward to a fun summer and a great time at Fitch in the fall!
Crow: Jim “Buffalo Wing” Livers 330-334-8137, 330-807-6781 jlivers@neo.rr.com
Thank you Cherokee Tribe for sponsoring a great camp out. My son said it was the best Camp Y-Noah camp out yet. Thanks to all the Crow members who helped with the Nation games and special thanks to new member Al Tersigni for making the Crow chili.
Our next event is the Aeros game. I believe we have some tickets still available. Contact me if you need some tickets.
Our August event is a family cook out at Clay’s Park in Canal Fulton. The date is Sunday August, 10th. We will be able to pop tents the night before. It would be great to have a nice Crow showing.
Happy birthday wishes to Shane “Lightning Cloud” Nichols 5-12-98, Matthew “Behind Bow” Bartlebaugh 6-1-96, Michael “Roaring Buffalo” Livers 6-3-97, and Max “Fire Hawk’ Riffle.6-19-96.

Kickapoo: Steve “Silent Eagle” Maxim 330-966-0820 smaxim@maximent.net
The Kickapoo Tribe had an excellent time at Camp Y Noah. The fire ceremony was fantastic as Max “Hopping Frog” and Steve “Silent Eagle” got to wear their chief feathers for the first time. It was an experience Max will never forget. Unfortunately, not all tribe members we able to make this campout due to baseball commitments. We look forward to attending Camp Fitch in the fall. Kickapoo tribe is ready for the Aeros baseball game June 13th. Happy Birthday to Tim “Flying Hawk” Turner and Jeff Soaring Hawk” Turner

The Navajo tribe had a great time at Camp Y Noah - we even had a visit from our past chief: Cliff "Growling Bear" and his son Mark at the fire ceremony! Thanx to all that coordinated everything for the weekend, we were truly blessed with the weather. Looking forward to the Aeros game on the 13th of June. Believe a Drive In is also scheduled for July, and then Navajo will sponsor the Clay's Park event for the 10th of August (check first portion of Smoke for details).
