“Blowin’
Smoke”
Tonka Hey, Mighty Manikiki Nation!
We have our new year and new
council off to a great start. I saw lots of enthusiasm and great ideas from
everyone at the council meeting, and I look forward to participating in the
events we have planned for the upcoming year.
First off is the Ghoul Walk, which
is covered in greater detail later on in this issue. Based on what I saw at the
last campout, there are many in this nation with devious minds, so I am certain
the Ghoul Walk will be an event to remember. I encourage each and every tribe
to get together to see how clever, creative and scary they can make this event.
Keep in mind, we will have two walk
throughs, as well as a less scary, not so dark walk and pumpkin contest for the
younger kids...so bring all your tribe members, as well as family members. Just
remember that this year, Halloween isn't over until Sunday, November 4th at
Camp Y Noah!
We also have our Father-Son banquet
coming up on Sunday, December 2nd at Guy's Party Center. I'm told that Jungle
Terry and his wild animals will make an appearance, and that the Big Medicine
points race is a real nail biter. Should make for a fun afternoon!
I'd like to also encourage you to
support two worthwhile charity events, the first being the Camp Y Noah Texas
Hold Em event on Saturday, November 10th, and during the month of December, to
participate and support the Christmas service project that is required of each
tribe. It's a great chance to give back to those less fortunate, and a great
way to teach the kids about the importance of giving, not only at the holidays,
but all year round.
So, it's a new year with the Manikiki Nation. Let the fun
and games begin!
Nation Officer Reports
Nation
Chief: Kurt “Big Bear” Leibensperger 330-699-4734,
330-606-1944 kurtleib@hotmail.com
Andrew and I are honored to accept
the position of Nation Chief, and would like to thank Scott Summers and his son
for their years of service to this Nation. This should be a great year, as I
know we have a fantastic council, and an enthusiastic set of chiefs to lead
this nation forward.
Please support all of our events, as
a past chief and council member, I know the hard work that goes into planning
an event, and the more participation we get from everyone, the better the event
goes.
Finally, I'd like to let all
members, council and chiefs know that as Nation Chief, I want to be available
to hear from you, the fathers and sons of this nation. So if you have any
questions, concerns, ideas, feel free to contact me by either phone or e-mail.
War Chief: John
“Sits By Fire” Waller 330-867-5726,
330-256-4430 john.waller@wilsontool.com
Tonka Hey!
Well, we’re off to having another
great year in Indian Guides. Sammy, Jacob and I are looking forward to serving
in the role of War Chief and “job well done” to Kurt and Andrew Leibensperger
for their efforts this year. It was a pleasure to be your Medicine Man last
year so please welcome Jim and Alex Cross who will be wearing the horns this
time around. We are in the process of shoring up the updated Nation Roster for
2007-2008, so I need all Braves (veteran and new) to make sure your Chief has
all of your pertinent information (email address, Y members?, little brave
ages/birthdates, Indian names, occupation, home address, etc.). Thank you all
in advance for your help with this endeavor and we will make sure you all have
access to this revised roster as soon as possible. Look forward to seeing you
all at the Ghoul Walk in November!
Sachem: Scott “Singin’ Moose” Summers 330-644-9110,
330-606-6965 scotts@rolandus.com
We have lot's of good things
happening this fall. The resurrection of the Ghoul Walk sounds very
exciting. The Cherokee scare will be very spooky. The new
Trailblazer tribe has some good plans for the fall including a scare at the
Ghoul Walk and a dedicated event Sluggers and Putters which will include
paintball. The Father Son banquet is coming up soon so fellow Joe Friday
award winners can look forward to participating in our annual selection
committee via email. There is also a great adult event coming up in
November at Camp Y-Noah. They are hosting a Texas hold em' tournament to
raise money for the YMCA Partners with Youth program. There is more
information attached to the end of the smoke.
I have already signed up to play and I am hoping to see a strong showing
from the Manikiki Nation. It will be a great time for all.
Finally I would like to add a personal note. Our local election day is coming
on Tuesday November 6th. My very good friend and neighbor, John Casalinuovo is
running for Judge of the Barberton Municipal Court. I fully endorse John
for this elected office so please consider giving him your valuable vote on Election
Day. If you would like to know more about John, please feel free to give
me a call.
Hope to see many of you at the Ghoul Walk and the Camp Y-Noah fundraiser.
Medicine
Man: Jim “Iron back” Cross 330-245-1326, 330-697-9121 jcross009@neo.rr.com
I am truly honored to be this years
Medicine man for the nation. I will try to do the best that I can to fulfill
this role for all of you.
I do not really have much to report
on as yet but, if I didn't connect with any of the new tribal chiefs please let
me know. I have tribal chief patches that I did not distribute.
I also have misc. requests for missing
beads etc. If anyone else has any issues John and I will sort them out.
Story
Teller: Dan “Big
Rock” Hickman 330-896-7164,
330-472-7010 nhickman3@aol.com
"In ages past, our old ones
were the storytellers. This was the way things were passed along to the
generations that followed. For this reason the aged people made it a
point to remember every detail so they could relate it at a later time.
They were the word and picture carriers making history and spiritual values
alive and important. In recent times we have made our old ones think they
are not so important. We spoof their
stories and make them feel foolish. The truth is that we are ignorant of
what is precious and how to 'a da li he li tse di --appreciate age.
Rigidity can creep in and set even the young mind if there are no soft
memories, no laughter, no times too deep for tears. Age is grace -- a
time too valuable to waste."

Wampum
Bearer: Dwayne “Big Bad Wolf” Haines 330-699-0972,
330-419-1002 dghaines@babcock.com
Welcome new nation chiefs.
You guys are the most important group for our Nation, GOODLUCK. Hope all
had a good time at the Akron Zips game. Bummer that they
lost. We start the new budget year out with sound financials.
Tally
Keeper: Jeff “Last Hawk” Pearce 330-714-7892 jeffp@pearceengineering.com
Thanks for letting serve this
Nation for another year. Two years as
Comanche chief and now a year to go on Council. I can only say that being a chief or on Council just helps to
build more friendships for me and my son!
Hope everyone is getting ready for
the Ghoul Walk!
Web Spinner: Charles
"Kicking Buffalo" Campbell 330-854-3077,
330-264-5383x237 kickingbuffalo@sbcglobal.net
This is my first Smoke as Web
spinner, and out of habit I almost started with "Tonka Hey Mighty Apache!”
So let me start over with- Tonka Hey Mighty Manikiki Nation! I've made a few
small changes to the appearance of the site. Check it out at
wwww.yindianguides.org and let me know what you think. Especially point out any
dead links. What I would really like to do is add pictures from our fall
campout at Camp Fitch. I have a few, but I didn't range around the camp to get
Pictures of all the tribes in action. So, if you have pictures, please forward them
to me and I'll get them posted. Thanks

330-418-3300 jmatheos@peoplesservices.com
What Da Hey! Nick and I are looking
forward to the coming year and want to thank Mr. Campbell and Matt for all
their hard work and time they have given the tribe, as well as, the
nation. The kids are excited about the Ghoul Walk November 4th. Our
tribe will be working on the scare at the Cedar Crest Cabins area (just past
the boat house). The dads are going to meet to plan the scare next
Thursday the 25th at 5:30 at YNOAH. This is an event that is going to be
a highlight for the boys, as long as, we give it some effort so a little help
from everyone would be greatly appreciated by your son(s). Hope to see
you all soon, thank you again for appointing me your chief.
Arapaho: Paul “Big Foot” Scheatzle 330-832-0304,
330-323-7683 paulscheatzle@hotmail.com
The Arapaho tribe welcomes new

a fun event

Cherokee:
Sam “Buffalo Hump” Ewing 330-245-1138, 513-907-9860
samewing@sbcglobal.net
Cherokee brothers,
If you didn’t make it to the Akron
Zips football game and stay until the end, you missed one of the best comebacks
ever! Unfortunately, it was Temple that came back. Otherwise, it was a great
night for football.
Get ready for the big scare coming
up on Saturday, Nov. 4. I know a couple of the big braves have been laying the
groundwork for our scare and we will be meeting to finalize the details in the
near future. Plan on spending the day at Y-Noah setting things up for the
little braves to experience that evening. It should be another memory making
event.
Comanche:
Tom “Fighting Eagle”
Knoebel 330-882-2387 TKnoebel@tribute.com
The Comanche welcome Jim and Adam
Schlosser to the Manikiki Nation! It was great to meet you at the
football game and we look forward to many years of fellowship in the Comanche
Tribe. We also have 2 other new recruit families that we are eager to
welcome into the tribe. With all the new blood the Comanche are looking
forward to regaining the Big Medicine Award in 2008! We will be having a
Thursday October 25th tribe meeting at the Knoebel residence to plan our scare
for the Ghoul Walk, so please mark your calendars for 7:00 pm!
Creek:
Dave “Brave Buckeye” Rownd 330-494-5544,
330-352-4747 drownd@starkmetal.com
Tonka Hey,
The new chant for the Creek Tribe
will be a hearty “OH” followed by another hearty “IO” response!! Most of
you may not know that our original tribe haled from the Olentangy River region
in the center of this great state.
The Creek had a GREAT time at Camp
Fitch. Too bad it is not right next door!! I didn’t realize what a
big deal it was to my son for me to be chief until I saw him with his “son of
chief” feathers on and a big smile ear to ear. It makes it all worth
while.
We all are looking forward the
Ghoul Walk although we have no idea what we are going to do!
Happy birthday greetings to Andrew
“Fast Rabbit” Rohweder in November. Also a happy belated Big 40 to Brad
“I won once in Euchre” Borne on Oct.11th. As a tribe we remain strong but
are getting older!!!
Go Buckeyes!!!!!
Crow: Jim “Buffalo Wing” Livers 330-334-8137,
330-807-6781 jlivers@neo.rr.com
Greetings Mighty Crow, I hope
everybody had a great time at the Zip game. To bad we lost at the last second.
Our next event is the ghoul walk Sunday November 4th at Camp y-Noah.
I am going to need some help on
this one. I’ll be calling a meeting to plan our scare soon.
Happy November birthday to Daniel
Mundy
Kickapoo: Paul “Running Deer” Mallue 330-497-9943, 330-209-4366
malluep@firstenergycorp.com
It was a great evening for football
at the Rubber Bowl… until the Zips let a victory slip away. Thanks to those of you who attended. The Zips football game is always a fun
event.
We have some great events coming up
so please try to attend. Let me know
your ideas for the Ghoul Walk. Don’t
forget the Texas Hold’em, Father/Son Banquet, and Christmas Service
Project. They are all coming up soon.
Thanks to all of the outgoing
Nation Council members and chiefs for the great job over the past year. Our Nation continues to grow stronger
through your efforts
Mandan:

Mingo: Tim “Flying Arrow” Dunigan 330-896-2134,
330-414-2967 tddunigan1356@peoplepc.com
The Mighty Mingo enjoyed the Akron
U football game. We are looking forward to this year in guides. Our tribe is
growing again thanks to Kurt Leibensperger and the recruitment drive.
The Ghoul Walk is coming up fast,
Nov.4th. I hope every tribe has enjoyed
working together on their scare. Check
the map in the Smoke for your tribes location on the scare trail.
Tribe Chiefs, don't forget your 15
items for the pumpkin contest.

Mohawks,
thanks to all who attended the Zips game it was perfect weather for football.
Thanks to Pat Duff for getting the tickets sold and helping to make the
tailgate party a success. We need some ideas for the ghoul walk Nov 4th and
will need participation to make it a great night for the little Braves so drop
me an e-mail and let make it happen.
Navajo: Jeff "Big Rubba Dubba" Reale 330-896-6256, 330-329-5041 ru4reale22@hotmail.com
Tonka hey, just wanted to thank the
last year's council for a nice orientation at Camp Y-Noah this past Tuesday
evening. The Navajo Tribe is looking forward to an exciting year. Our tribe
will be ready for the Ghoul Walk on the 4th of Nov @ Camp Y-Noah. We will
attempt to get "graduated Navajo" members to assist with the walk so
all of our braves can experience what Mingo has brought back for our
nation-looking forward to it!
