Nation Chief: Kurt “Big Bear” Leibensperger 330-699-4734, 330-606-1944 kurtleib@hotmail.com
Tonka Hey, Mighty Manikiki Nation!
Well, July's here, and the Manikiki Nation Guides calendar is full! Be sure to mark your calendars for the following events...Drive-In Movie Night, hosted by the Mandan tribe, on Sunday, July 20th. Location is either the Blue Sky Drive In (Wadsworth) or Magic City Drive In (Barberton) depending on which has the better family films. Look in your inbox around mid month for more details on this. Cost is just $12 a carload, and this is a family event. Then on August 10, the Navajo are hosting our summer family picnic at Clay's Park. Come for the food, and fun of a large swimming lake with plenty of slides, boats and water fun! Plus we will be having a covered dish picnic. It's a great family event I hope you can all attend!
Also, chiefs (both incoming and outgoing) be sure to be at Longhouse on Tuesday, July 22nd at 6pm at my house. This is our annual planning meeting where we set the events for next year. Be sure to bring both incoming and outgoing chiefs. We will have a picnic before at 6pm, with meeting at 7pm. My address is 3391 Parfoure Blvd in Green. To get to my house, take Massillon Rd to Raber Rd. (turn right on Raber), pass the Chapel, and Parfoure is on your left.
Finally, thanks to all who helped at the Relay for Life...in all 27 Manikiki Nation members helped us sell food to raise money for cancer research. Special thanks to John Waller and Jim Cross, for organizing this event, Larry Murgatroyd and Charles Campbell for tipi setup, Jack Daniels for loaning us a refrigerated truck to store food and ice, Jim Livers and Brian Morris for setting up breakfast. We stayed up all night, or at least attempted it. Also, congrats to those who marched in the Green Memorial Day Parade...I hear we got first place for our category. Nice job to all who attended the event!!!
War Chief: John “Sits By Fire” Waller 330-867-5726, 330-256-4430 john.waller@wilsontool.com
Attention Chiefs: Our annual budget planning meeting is Tuesday, July 22nd, 6PM @ our Nation Chief’s (Kurt Leibensperger) home. This where we plan the events for next year AND assign which tribe will sponsor each event. Make sure you and your replacement are present at the meeting so you can choose which event your tribe would like to sponsor. If you are staying on as your tribe’s Chief, just bring yourself then.
Finally, I want to thank every Chief in this Nation for your time and efforts. This program would not run without committed fathers such as yourselves. Look forward to seeing you all there.
Sachem: Scott “Singin’ Moose” Summers 330-644-9110, 330-606-6965 scotts@rolandus.com
I'm sorry that I missed the Relay for Life last month because it is an event that is very near and dear to my heart. The industry I work in has one big trade show every summer and this year they moved it from July to June. Thanks to everyone who participated. I look forward to seeing many of you at our next two summer events, especially the Family Picnic at Clay's Park which is always a great time.
Medicine Man: Jim “Iron back” Cross 330-245-1326, 330-697-9121 jcross009@neo.rr.com
I am still missing a few of the Tribes attendance. If possible Chiefs PLEASE review the sheets handed out at the last Longhouse and get them back to me as soon as possible. Blackhawk, Mingo contact me so I can arrange to get you the attendance sheets/Medicine points.
Story Teller: Dan “Big Rock” Hickman 330-896-7164, 330-472-7010 nhickman3@aol.com
The eagle appears to have been regarded with extreme admiration by the Red Man of the north. Its feathers composed the war-flag of the Creeks, and its image carved in wood or its stuffed skin surmounted their council lodges. None but an approved warrior dared wear it among the Cherokees, and the Dakotas allowed such an honor only to him who had first touched the corpse of the common foe. The Natchez and other tribes esteemed it almost as a deity. The Zuni of New Mexico employed four of its feathers to represent the four winds when invoking the rain-god. Indeed, it was venerated by practically every tribe in North America. The owl, too was employed as a symbol of wisdom, and sometimes, as by the Algonquin, was represented as the attendant of the Lord of the Dead. The Creek medicine-men carried a stuffed owl-skin as the badge of their fraternity and a symbol of their wisdom, and the Cherokees placed one above the 'medicine' stone in their council lodge.

Wampum Bearer: Dwayne “Big Bad Wolf” Haines 330-699-0972, 330-419-1002 dghaines@babcock.com
The Manikiki Nation is doing great financially. If you have any questions about this please talk to your chief or one of the Nation Council. Looking forward to the Drive-In, hope to see you all there!
Tally Keeper: Jeff “Last Hawk” Pearce 330-645-6075, 330-714-7892 jeffp@pearceengineering.com
Hotdogs and chips before the game were great and even with the rain we had a good time! It’s always good to see all the braves and their families come out together! Next is the drive-in movie and we wouldn’t miss it, it’s a great time with the family, so get there early so we all have time to meet before the movie starts!
Thanks to all those who helped out at the Relay for Life!!!
Web Spinner: Charles "Kicking Buffalo" Campbell 330-854-3077, 330-264-5383x237 kickingbuffalo@sbcglobal.net
In the May issue of Smoke Signals, I put a contest out to see how many braves actually read the Nation's Officers’ remarks. The Mighty Navajo tribe came forward as the only, might I repeat, only tribe that responded with the correct answer. As their incredibly valuable prize package, I am digitizing their artwork into scalable vector graphics that they can easily use for t-shirts to flyers. This month I am repeating the challenge. The first tribe to e-mail me with the location of a small hidden kicking buffalo in the online edition of Smoke Signals will receive the same valuable prize package. So Happy Kicking Buffalo Hunting!

Arapaho: Paul “Big Foot” Scheatzle 330-832-0304, 330-323-7683 paulscheatzle@hotmail.com
What a great time we had this year at Campout. Congratulations to the Bietkos and the Wallers for their wins in the fishing derby. Although I think Big Brave Backer deserves an honorary award for the giant bass he caught.
Please let me know if you can make it to the drive-in movie July 20th at either Blue Sky or Magic City.
Blackhawk: Todd “Sly Fox” Mellon 330-645-9456 330-819-7762 tmellon@primebusinesssolutions.net
I just wanted to remind everyone of the Drive-In Movie Night on Sunday July 20th. Last time I know that we not only had a great turnout but we had a blast. Hopefully Dukes of Hazard is playing again. Tonka hey Jessica Simpson!
Cherokee: Sam “Buffalo Hump” Ewing 330-245-1138, 513-907-9860 samewing@sbcglobal.net
Cherokee Brothers, summer keeps churning along and Running Fox and I are spending as much time outside as possible. In addition to our usual golfing, baseball and fishing, we are looking forward to the outside movie coming up on July 20th. Let me know if you plan to make it.
Our next nation longhouse on July 22 is our planning meeting. I will be attending with our incoming Chief for next year, Rick “Running Horse” Crowl to plan the activities and calendar for next year. If you have any suggestions, or input, please let me know.
I am also finishing up the critique from the spring campout at Y-Noah. If you have anything you would like to pass along to the Nation leadership, send it in.
Comanche: Tom “Fighting Eagle” Knoebel 330-882-2387 TKnoebel@tribute.com
The Comanche enjoyed the baseball game, well, up until the torrential downpour began. We are looking forward to the drive-in and family picnic Nation events later this summer. Hopefully we’ll be able to have a tribe meeting in July sometime as well.
The Comanche Tribe would like to take a moment and thank the rest of the Nation for participating in this year’s Big Medicine Points contest. Looks like the Comanche will be leading the campout campfire processions for a long time to come!
Creek: Dave “Brave Buckeye” Rownd 330-494-5544, 330-352-4747 drownd@starkmetal.com
Tonka Hey! The Creek have been very busy this summer so far! Between baseball, soccer, basketball and whatever else we play, we have been on the run the whole summer! Big braves Kevin and Brad even went to a summer camp to learn how to play Euchre.
Happy birthday to Tim “little mountain” Stroia
Wanted to let everyone know that the team of Rownd, Plum and whoever else we play with in the Alumni Golf outing will not be playing this year so you all have a chance. Sign up soon for your first chance to win in the last 5 years!!!!
Crow: Jim “Buffalo Wing” Livers 330-334-8137, 330-807-6781 jlivers@neo.rr.com
Hello Crow, the Aero’s game had some great potential until the skies opened up. The food was great and thanks to the Kickapoo tribe for all their hard work. Next event is the drive-in movies July 19th.

Drive-In event is the 20th of July but I don’t know what drive in we will be at because we need a G or PG movie. The cost will be $12 per car a savings of $3.
We will provide snacks and drinks and we will have an area for us all to park.
