Longhouse: 8:0 pm, Tuesday, April 21st at the Green
YMCA
Note the later time!
We will meet at
All Council members and
Chiefs are required to attend Longhouse.
Chiefs, if you cannot attend, please get one of your tribe members to
attend and sign in for you.
At the
last Longhouse it became very clear that we have some tribes in transition or
approaching transition and it is time to do some recruiting again in 2009. We
had a great recruiting effort last year and I expect this year will be no
different. Jim Cross has got us the dates for the upcoming Camp YNoah Family
Fun/Open House Days soon approaching.
The Camp will set up a table or two
for us to man for the two hour time period and we can pass out flyers, display
Indian Guides items (FASCars, feathers, headdresses, pictures of our events,
etc.) and generally talk with and answer questions from prospective families who
approach our table area. It is a great opportunity to welcome some new families
to our great organization and bolster our ranks as we have another group of
Outgoing braves getting ready to depart.
The dates are below. Here is what we
are going to do. Since we have 11 tribes in the Nation, representatives from
four tribes (1-2 from each Tribe at the most needed) will have the
opportunity to attend the event and work the table for the two hour time period.
Here is the breakdown in no particular order on which tribes will work which
dates:
March 29th –
Apache, Mohawk, Creek, Cherokee and Kickapoo
April 19th –
Arapaho, Blackhawk, Comanche, Crow, Navajo and Seneca
They are all from
Several
of us mentioned last night that we need to bring in some new families and this
is a great opportunity to take advantage of a captive audience that fits our
demographic. We can also cover more ground if we split up the days between all
of our Tribes. All Tribes then have the opportunity to add members for the
upcoming season.

Hey!
I
want to thank you for another successful Nation Fundraiser this year. I hope you
all had a good time. Because of your generosity, we have gone far to ensure the
Manikiki Nation will be around for years to come to enjoy with our sons.
Also, a huge thanks to Chiefs and Council who went
above and beyond with extra help to support this event. It is a true team effort
that makes it work so well.
The
March Bowling event was a great time also. Kudos to the Creek for a fun and well
planned event. Mark your calendars for some exciting upcoming events, Green Y
LateNighter in April, Spring Campout at
Be
sure to check out our new Manikiki Nation Blogsite. It has some great pictures

I don’t
know about you, but I sure had fun at the Fundraiser. I dance more there on that night then I do
the rest of the year! Thanks to everyone
who came and ate and spent lots of money!!
Looks like another successful event and because of that we’re ready for
another great year with our sons!
Shops
with Fists was
thrilled to get her award. It's now hanging in her office! And she said the
moccasins are great and fit perfect.
Bowling
was great. We had a really good turn out for the Comanche Tribe. Tucker and I are looking forward to the Late
Nighter at the Y!
There
are still some council positions open for the 2009-2010
year. Please see me if you have an
interest in helping out. The Nation
needs good leadership!!

There are a couple of projects I've
been working on for the nation....
First off, we are getting together
to build a new fire ring for Camp Y Noah. Last year, the family and friends of
Terry Strouse donated $500 to our nation in his honor. After much thought, we
decided that improving the fire ring at Camp Y Noah and dedicating it in his
honor would be our project.
At this point, I am working on
securing the materials to build the ring, with the goal of dedicating the new
fire ring at our spring campout in May. To do this
,we will need volunteers to help assemble the new ring, most likely in
late April or early May. Watch your e-mail or your Smoke for more information
on this project!
Also, I am organizing our first
Trailblazers event of 2009...the Iron Man challenge, a full half hour of full on
laser tag at the Laser Quest on Friday, April 3rd from
A couple of things....thanks to everyone for yet another successful Reverse
Raffle. A full house, a great meal, lots of fun people, past and present
Manikiki dads all in the house. Our nation really is a good group with a lot
of good people. We made a lot of money, but more importantly, we had good fun
with good friends!

Since
we had so extra time in setting the final budget for the Spring Campout, this
issue of the Smoke will be for March and April. Look for any updates via e-mail
blast.
Website and
blog are all working good. Be sure to log into the blog and take the monthly
poll. This past month’s poll was about FAScar attendance. The results are that
81% feel attendance is down due to scheduling conflicts. Only 11 people took
the poll so it’s a small sample.
Be sure to send me your pictures, I did not take any at bowling so somebody please send me bowling pictures and I will get them on the blog

Hey!
Happy to
report that a GREAT time was had by all at the Reverse Raffle fundraiser…there
were even some prizes won by Apache tribe members! We had nearly 100%
participation for the bowling event, and all in attendance had a fun time.
Looking forward to the latenighter event at the Y.
Hope to see everyone there, it's always one of the highlight events of the
year!
Larry
Big Bear
Arapaho:
Paul “Big Foot” Scheatzle
the Arapaho tribe had a great time at
the fundraiser and were more than happy to help with the side board. Hats off to council for all their hard work and to Jeff Backer for
selling 14 tickets.
Bowling was a lot of fun as well. The event
seemed to run smoothly and I wouldn't change a thing.
See everyone at the
latenighter
Blackhawk:
We all had
an awesome time bowling and had a great turnout for Blackhawk and the entire
nation. The free bowling was great and the pizza was even better. "Dan the
Man" Knighton bowled over 200 making the Blackhawk tribe proud. If there is any
way we can remove the 7 pin next year, that would be
great! Looking forward to the late night next
month. See you there!
Cherokee:
Wow, since the last Smoke the Cherokee tribe has been
busy. We have completed our Community
Service Event which was a good donation to the Akron Foodbank, we had our Tribe
event at Laserquest which was a blast
Comanche:
The Comanche had a
great time at the reverse raffle though I don’t think anyone really
The Bowling event was a
blast and the boys sure had fun. What we discovered however is that 12 frames
is about the interest limit for a typical 6 year old. ;-) In other words they
are all gung-ho about bowling that second game, then about 2 frames into it
those video games look so much more appealing. But a fun time was had by all,
and we are proud to say all Comanche fathers were able to eke out 100+ games.
Some were close though… very close. Finally, a good time was had at Pizza Hut
after bowling. We’re looking forward to the late-night swim in April – mark
your calendars now!
Creek:
Brad “
“Tonka
Hey! The Tribe had a
great time at the reverse raffle. Once again we had phenomenal results selling
fifty-fifty.
Well as the year
rolls on, The Creek are once again leading the pack with Bad Medicine points.
I’m thinking t-shirts are in order!
Big Happy Birthday

I’m looking forward
to seeing everyone at the Late-night YMCA event and the spring
campout.”

Tonka-hey
Mighty Mighty Crow! Thank for all of the great participation at the bowling
event, and the reverse raffle (thanks for giving me your money!). Hopefully
we'll get another great turnout for the YMCA late-nighter on April
18th.
Kickapoo:
Steve “Silent Eagle”
Maxim
We have all had
busy winters, limiting our participation in Nation events. Hopefully, we can
get back in the swing of things this month.
We had a great time at the
Nation's Reverse raffle. Our tribe was able to sell all of the tickets that it
was assigned. We even had a prior chief join us for the raffle, Tom Turner and
his wife Sandy. We appreciate the continued support from Tom
A few of our tribe members were able to participate in the
Bowling this past week and look forward to our future
events.
Happy birthday to Spencer Johnson who turned 7 on Feb
14th, Shawn Fowler who turned 8 on Feb 24 and Max Maxim who turned 8 on Mar
8th.

Seneca:
Daniel "Chief Broken Bone” Charlick
Tonka Hey from the Mighty Seneca! What a difference a month
makes. Spring seems to have come to the Seneca homelands and thoughts turn
toward warm weather fun to come. Last month our big braves and their squaws had
fun and represented the tribe well at the Fundraiser, and the bowling event was
a ball!
