Nation Chief: John “Sits By Fire” Waller
Tonka
Hey!
Autumn is here
again and it is time for us to retire the old and welcome in the new as our new
season of Indian Guides begins in October. It has been a pleasure for Sammy,
Jacob and I to wear the Nation Chief feathers this year as I am sure it will be
for Jeff and Tucker Pearce this upcoming year. They will do a fine job leading
our Nation into the future. Jeff’s excitement with the Indian Guides program is
unmatched. Let’s all get behind him and help him strengthen this Nation for
other Fathers and Sons that will come after us!
I would like to
thank all Tribe Chiefs and Council for a job well done this year! This Nation
does not function as well as it does unless these guys get it done and they
sure did again this year. I would also like to thank Sachem, Kurt Liebensperger
for his support. I appreciate the help. I also wish to thank all the Dads in
the Manikiki Nation that contributed to the “behind the scenes” efforts in
making all of our events go smoothly so we could all enjoy them. This work
often goes unrecognized but is definitely not unnoticed. Finally, I would like
to thank Sammy and Jacob for still wanting to hang out with their old man. I
know it won’t be long before that might change but I’ll take it for as long as
I can.
We have several
Outgoing Braves moving out of Indian Guides at the Fall Campout (but hopefully
on to Trailblazers). This means we will be smaller in numbers next year. I
would ask that all Dads ask someone you know to come and take a look at our
program. Invite them to an event to see for themselves. We will need to bring
new Fathers and Sons into the Manikiki Nation to keep each of our tribes
thriving for many years to come. Think of all of the fun and enjoyment you and
your son(s) have had. This will definitely be the same for others if you give
them the opportunity.

Chief: Jeff “Last Hawk” Pearce
We need everyone to help with our
upcoming recruiting event at the YMCA!
The event isn’t happening until October 24th, but we need you
to plan now. We will be setting up the teepee and possibly be serving hotdogs like we have
in the past. We need to make a strong
showing so the kids can see what a great time they can have by being in
Guides! More information will be included in the next Smoke Signal.
We are also presently handing out flyers to all the local school systems in an attempt to strengthen our nation!! If you have volunteered to hand these out please see that it gets done as soon as possible. And don’t forget your neighbors and friends and your sons friends, be sure to tell them about Indian Guides and what it means to you and your son!!
And lastly, Tucker and I are looking forward to the campout where we will begin our year as Nation Chief and Chief’s son! Please know that I am open to any input you may have, whether it’s telling me you really like something or think it was the worse idea you have ever heard. Your input will help make this a great year for everyone!

It’s hard to believe yet another year has slipped by. I’m
sure the “Smoke” will be much more entertaining as I pass the reins to John
Matheos. If you’ve never read his Smoke articles as chief, your in for a treat.

Greetings from your nation’s Web Spinner.
This is going to be my last post on the “SMOKE” as I will be turning over
duties to Brad. At the campout don't forget to take some pictures and
turn
them in for posting. Also feel free to make suggestions / comments for
future web site / blog site improvements.
Cheers--

Apache:
LARRY “Big
The fall
campout is less a week away hopefully the weather will be great . It looks as
if we should have an excellent turnout for the campout. Please look through the
smoke to find our camping spot number and the agenda for the weekend.
Arapaho:
Paul “Big Foot” Scheatzle
The Arapaho tribe is pleased to welcome Mark Walker as
our new leader. I'm sure he'll do a great job and is already hard at work
on the Father-Son Banquet.
On a personal note, I wanted to say thanks for the opportunity to lead the
Arapaho tribe the past 3 years. I've never worked with a better group of
guys. I'm looking forward to my year as story teller and many more years
of involvement with the Manikiki Nation
Blackhawk:
We really enjoyed the
fireworks at the Aeros stadium, so a big thanks to the Kickapoo Tribe.
Cheifko is looking forward to handing over the headdress to the next chief of
Blackhawk at the campout…if only Mellon had not lost it, that would be
possible. It will be exciting to camp out in the fresh air and eat
McDonalds all weekend. Hopefully the Great Spirit will hold off any
unwanted precipitation and keep our canoes upright. Tonka Hey!
Cherokee:
The Cherokee all had a Great time at the Aeros game and a better time watching the awesome fireworks display! We are looking forward to the fall campout in a few weeks.
Happy Birthday to
Comanche:
The
Comanche had a good time at the Akron Aeros game, though those foul balls really
sizzle in there don’t they?! We are looking forward to some
Creek:
Brad “
Tonka Hey! I am looking forward to one last great campout next weekend. As you may know about two thirds of our little braves have moved on between last year and this fall; half of the tribe will “retire” just this coming weekend. I will miss the camaraderie and all the fun that we’ve had together.
I want to thank Scott “Star Warrior” Veney for taking the helm of the mighty Creek Tribe on such short notice. I am confident the Creek have a strong leader in Scott and will flourish as a result.
See you guys at camp,
Brad “Gray Hawk” Borne
Crow:
Jack “running mustang” Daniels
Tonka Hey mighty crow – thanks to all of you who supported
me over the last year, I’m certain I couldn’t have done it without all of the
support from you guys! I hope you all work as hard at supporting Craig
next year. We’re really looking forward to a fun campout at
Mohican! Mustang out!

Tonka Hey Nation!
School has started and the temperatures have dropped.
It must be time for the FALL CAMPOUT! The tribe is looking forward to
"Roughing It" at Mohican this month. It's shaping up to be a
fun and memorable time. Ron Hudas and his son, Gabe, will be
putting on the chief headdress at this campfire. A Seneca happy birthday
whoop to Luke Gorris, who turned 7 in August. See you at Mohican!
