Try the Y DAY
Saturday October 24th
Volunteers Needed
We are planning a recruitment event for Saturday October 24th from 9am to 1pm at the Green YMCA. This is their “Try the Y” day and they get a lot of traffic coming in to sign up for their events and classes. This is a great opportunity for us to recruit fathers and sons!!
We’ll be setting up the teepee, playing corn-hole, tossing footballs, serving free food and drinks, and passing out flyers and enrollment forms. So we need dads and sons there to talk to people, to show them and tell them about all the fun things we do!
So please put this on your calendar and plan on being there. We’ll need your help with set up, tear down and just basic recruiting (hanging out, playing, and eating….the usual stuff). Our War Chief Charles Campbell will be coordinating this effort so get in touch with him or me if you need more information or can just come out and help!!
Nation Chief: Jeff “Last Hawk” Pearce
330-645-6075, 330-714-7892 jeffp@pearceengineering.com
I want to start by saying thank you to last year’s council and chiefs, with a special thank you to our outgoing Nation Chief, John Waller. He put in a lot of time and effort for the Nation and I think he should get a rousing round of applause for it!! Because of his hard work and the work of the council and chiefs it was a great year with a lot fun events and the Manikiki Nation remains strong both in members and financially.
I want to also thank all those who stepped up to be leaders this year. To the council that will provide the Nation with the individual tasks required by each of them, thank you! And to the chiefs that will bring their tribes together, a tough job when everyone is busy with family and work, thank you! Without these volunteers the Nation would not run as smooth as it does.
I hope every Nation member had a great year last year. I feel like we had some fun events and built some lasting memories. These are things your sons will remember for a lifetime. I know I can still remember things I did with my dad and brothers when I was a young boy in Indian Guides!
This year I think we’ll build on those memories with some fun events, some of the same old favorites and some new ones, ideas brought to the table by both the past and present leadership.
And I want to say thank you for all the support I have gotten from my fellow braves as I start out my year as Nation Chief. I will do my best to live up to the legacy of those who have done this job before me!!
One last note before I end this. At the past Longhouse meeting I was given the honor of holding the Nation Charter for the coming year. It was presented to me by John Waller. This Charter was the original document dated 1952 that gave a start to the Wyandot Nation, what is now the Manikiki Nation. I would encourage anyone with information regarding the charter or the reason for the name change to come forward and relate what you might know. I do know from talking to my dad that our tribe, the Zuni Tribe, was part of this Wyandot Nation, so getting to hold this for the next year has a very special meaning for me!! I will be bringing the charter to some events to share it with others.
Hope to see you all at the punt pass and kick competition!

Matt, Will and I would like to thank everyone for the great time we had at Mohican. I am really looking forward to this year and we have a lot of great recruiting events planned. See you all at the Punt Pass and Kick.

Tonka Hey!
Sammy, Jacob and I are looking forward to the Nation Punt, Pass and Kick Competition coming up soon and we had a great time at the Fall Campout at Mohican! That might have been the best weather we have ever had for a campout while we have been in the Guides. Falling out of the canoe was also pretty funny. I want to congratulate Larry Murgatroyd; all of the Apache Dads, the Cherokee and Kevin Adkins for stepping up to give us all yet another memorable campout. Also a fond farewell from the Guides to Larry and “thank you” for inviting my boys and me to join the Guides 6 years ago. It has been one of the best experiences of my life. See you in the Trailblazers, my friend!

We are still compiling final statistics for the 2008-2009 Big Medicine award. New tribe chiefs, I will be emailing you individually to have you confirm and fix any attendance that is incorrect for your tribe. I hope to have that wrapped up by the October longhouse at which time we will also know which little braves will be getting the attendance award at the banquet. Thanks in advance for your help in that matter!

Cash flow and health of the nation is positive. We will really need to be diligent in paying our dues and giving to our Fatherson banquest weather you can attaend or not. This event pays forward your 2010 budget to provide us with free and low cost events, For every dollar you spend the Nation is able to furnish wings and pizza for every hungry child in our nation.
Thanks

Tonka Hey! Glad to be taking care of the nation’s website and blog. Thanks to Jamie “Big Dog” Wiggins and Charles "Kicking Buffalo" Campbell, Web Spinners for 2008 and 2009 respectively, for their advice and assistance in the transition, and a shout out to Kevin Adkins, 2007 & 2006 Web Spinner, for convincing me to take this gig; I’m looking forward to it.
In the next few months I will implement several improvements for the website, nation communication, and an online database for our annual fundraiser. I am soliciting suggestions from the nation for additional website improvements and looking for any photos from the fall campout and other nation events. If you can post your photos to Picasa, or other online photo albums, and share them with me I will embed your photo albums into our sites. If you prefer the old fashion way, send me an email and I’ll give you FTP instructions to minimize massive email traffic.

The Mighty Arapaho thanks Paul Scheatzle for his leadership over the past three years and look forward to his words of wisdom as Story Teller. Zach and I are looking forward to the upcoming year as Chief and Son of Chief.
Thanks to the Apache and Cherokee for a job well done at the Mohican Reservation, a good time was had by all.
Blackhawk: Denny “Slithering Snake” Kelliher 330-285-5887 dskelliher@yahoo.com
The Blackhawk (those who attended at least) had a great time canoeing and camping at Mohican. If the weather is good, and it was great, tent camping is better than cabins – it’s surprising how well you sleep when Dan Hughes is not snoring in a bunk next to you! A special goodbye to our outgoing braves: Owen Mellon, Joey Durkin, John Moresea, Bradley Williamson, Matt Gehrig and Jack “Fighting Armadillo” Kelliher. And a heap of thanks to outgoing chief Dave “Thunder Underground” Beitko, whom I will be leaning on heavily for advice the next year. (So heavily that he may at times feel he is still chief!)

Tonka Hey!
My first smoke report as a new chief, what to say? First of all a big thanks to all of the members of the Comanche Tribe, you guys really make this fun and a great experience for me and my sons. I'm excited to be more involved with the nation and look forward to helping out where I can.
The Comanche Tribe had a great time at the fall camp out. Thanks to Tom Knoebel for showing the kids how to make donuts at the camp fire as well as great pie iron breakfasts and deserts!
The canoe trip was....long...and some of us got wetter than we had planned, but everyone survived and has a story to tell.
I know we brought home a few hundred of the finest Buckeye nuts that Ohio has to offer, what we are going to do with them is a mystery to me. After talking to a few other father's I know I'm not alone here, seems that gathering them was a big hit with the boys. Suggestions?
Looking forward to the Punt, Pass and Kick competition in a couple of weeks. I hear the Browns are sending some scouts down to recruit talent for this season!

It’s an honor to follow in the footsteps of such great leaders of men as Adkins, Rownd & Borne. Their leadership has been instrumental in shaping my ideas and if I can only live up to their standard, I will be satisfied.
Although we had a small group at the fall campout, we all had a wonderful time. The weather, games, pig and camaraderie all worked out great. The canoeing was a blast, as long as Aaron Foust and his ship, The Black Pearl, did not ambush your canoe. Scot Kingan supplied the new Creek motto after the canoe trip…”The end you seek is just around the next bend…”.
My thanks to Kevin Adkins for supplying the corn and a tremendous breakfast Saturday morning. Thanks to Aaron Foust for supplying our other meals and to his wife, Wendy, for having the faith in him to do it all by himself.

Tonka Hey Crow Tribe!
Birthdays this month are Devon Green and Austin Hawk. Happy birthday guys!
Great job at the tug-of-war. We have the Laser Tag certificates and we need to find a date. I can see a Crow meeting coming…..
Hope to see a good turnout at the Punt, Pass and Kick. I know we have a couple ringers out there; come on out and bring home a trophy for the Crow tribe.

Tonka Hey,
Greetings Nation. I'm happy to serve as our new Chief, Snake Blade, (Ron Hudas) from the Mighty Seneca. My son Snatching Bear (Gabriel Hudas) and I are excited to help our group. We had a fantastic time at the Campout in Mohican. Our little Indians had a great time playing the Nation Games, Canoeing, and Camping with Dad, and most of all collecting Buckeyes. We even celebrated a birthday at the campfire for a dad, Mark "Run Like the Wind" Gorris. We look forward to the Punt, Pass, and Kick event all while keeping our eye on the winter snow flakes about to fall but hopefully not before the leaves are done falling.
