Polar Bear
Swim
Sunday December
6th –
Many of you may recall last year's
Polar Bear Jump, that Scott "Swimming Moose" Summers and Kurt Leibensperger did,
for
Since the
tradition was set last year with our nation chief (myself) taking the plunge,
and raising over $800 for this very worthy cause...I'd like to have our group
step up again this year. Our sacrificial lamb...I mean esteemed nation
chief, John Waller, will take the plunge if our nation steps
up
As an additional incentive, Scott
“Singin’ Moose” has promised to reprise his role as “Shiverin’ Moose” if the
Nation can raise $800 this time around. So let’s turn blue council members into some $GREEN$ for Project Saint Nicholas!
Annual Father/Son
Awards Banquet
Sunday December
14th – 1PM to 5PM
Camp
Y-Noah
This
is our Annual Awards banquet to recognize both Big and Little braves for their
contributions and achievements of the past year. This year’s entertainment is
the Akron Zoo’s travelling animal show. As always this event is free and is one
of the many costs covered by our upcoming March
fundraiser.
Be
sure to start thinking about Silent Auction Items for the upcoming March
Fundraiser.

Hey!
Despite
the nasty weather, the Punt, Pass & Kick Competition was a success and the
kids had a blast. Kudos to the Blackhawk for making the event fun and keeping
everyone fed with hot dogs and chocolate! Certificates and prizes for the
winners of each age group will be presented at the upcoming Father/Son Banquet.
Mark
your calendars for our Annual Father/Son Banquet to be held on Sunday, December
14th from 1-5PM @ Camp Y-Noah. There will be great food,
entertainment and all of the annual awards.
Bring your feathers, vests and bead necklaces for Tribe pictures. I look
forward to seeing you all there!
Come
out to Dano’s Lakeside Pub on Saturday, December 6th to see the Polar
Bear Swim benefiting The Project Saint
Nicholas Returns Foundation run by IG Alum Jeff Reale. Yes, you guessed it, I
will be jumping in along with Kurt “Big Bear” Leibensperger. We are trying to
help raise donations for this very worthwhile cause helping those who are
struggling at Christmastime. Our group raised $800 last year and I bet we can
beat that this year. Help us help others out and have some fun while were at it.
Brrrrr....
Finally,
our Annual Reverse Raffle/Silent Auction will be here before you know it. We
need every Father in this Nation to support our only fundraiser of the year. We
are trying to achieve the entire year’s budget in one night and we will if
everyone steps up. Tickets will be passed out at the Father/Son Banquet and we
are already soliciting silent auction items and program ads. Contact your Chief
to see how you can help make this our best fundraiser ever. Thank you all in
advance for your efforts. Happy Holidays!!!

The Punt,
Pass and Kick competition was great, just wish it would have been better
weather! The Haunted Hayride was fun too! Both were good events! Thanks to
all who were involved in scheduling these events.
Looking forward to the Father/Son Banquet. Hope to see everyone there. It's a great time to socialize with your tribe and the other tribes. Congratulations in advance to all the braves who are recognized during this event. As a note, this event will always be extra special for Tucker and I as it was the first Indian Guides event we attended when we joined.
The Nation Roster should be out to all chiefs by now, please make sure you're updating your tribes information and filling in any missing information!
Also please keep spreading the word about our great Nation to all your friends and neighbors, that's always our best recruiting avenue!!

Looking forward to
seeing everyone at our annual Father-Son banquet in December. With a new
setting (Camp Y-Noah) and a new caterer (Jim "Buffalo Wing" Livers) this should
be a great event. We have a great lineup of Joe Friday nominees, and we will
announce our winners at the event. Thanks to all past Joe Friday winners
for their votes, ideas and input into the selection of the winner.
We are also working to put all of our critiques online.
If you are planning an event, please e-mail your critique to me at kurtwone@hotmail.com, and we will then
place the critique in a special online section that our webspinner, Jamie
Wiggins is working on right now. No more chasing down old
binders!
Hope you and your sons have a
great holiday season!

that no deserving little braves are left without recognition. Big Medicine is

The Nations finances are good and we have lots to be thankful for this holiday season. With an uncertain economy, it will be a challenge to raise our average dollar amount at the fundraiser.
If we have
100% participation from our members we will be able to surpass our average even
in these challenging times. Please start thinking about silent auction items and
adds for our
program. No
dollar amount is too small. Have a Happy Thanksgiving.

The website
is a little out of date due to the switchover from our old webmaster to me and
my vacation/work schedule. It will be
fully back to speed in a few days.
For the
website(s) of the month – I recommend Priceline.com or MySimon.com. These are on-line price comparison tools that
search a large variety of on-line retailers.
I do most my shopping on-line now, and these sites are some of the tools
I use to find the best price. On a
related subject – did you know the latest marketing trend is to pay teams of
people to go write good reviews for your products on-line? Just be careful about what you read on-line
in those “customer reviews”.

Hump” Ewing 330-245-1138,

The
bear is a giant of a beast, but gentle to all who see its tender loving ways.
The bear did not always sleep (hibernate).
It
was during the time of the first winter that Wind gave Bear the gift of sleep.
All the animals of the forest thought Bear was lazy and slow. They would tease
him and harass the poor soul daily. They viewed his kind gentle ways as a
weakness.
Still
Bear did not hate or get angry at the animals who made fun of him, he just
smiled and went on his way. He loved his feathered friends, his underground
friends and his underwater friends. The only time he was sad is when he was
hungry and had to eat one of them.
One
day father Wind Heard all the animals talking about how foolish bear was. Even
Fish turned against his friend. This made Wind very mad.
In
a dream he taught Bear what plants to eat and all about the bad things Fish had
said. He told Bear fish was not a friend but food. He also told Bear that
because he was kind he would receive a special gift.
Then
bear awoke wondering what gift would Wind give him.
In
the next dream, Bear was sad. Winter asked him what is wrong? "I am only good
because I have good friends". "That is true", said Winter. So he told Bear to go
and tell all his friends about the gift that Wind had promised
him.
When
Bear awoke he ran through the forest and told all who would listen. This made
him very tired and sleepy so he went back to cave and fell a
sleep.
As
before, many creatures did not listen to Bear. They went about their business.
Some even called him crazy. So Winter decided to teach them a lesson. As bear
and his friends slept, flew away, or gathered food, without knowing, Winter came
down upon the forest. Yet, he made sure that those who were friends of bear were
not aware of him or his brother wind. To them it was a time of the
gift.
So
as Winter begins his journey across the land, one can still see who were the
friends of bear...Are You???

Hey!
If
everyone could please respond by e-mail that will be attending the Father-Son
banquet, I would appreciate it. I need
responses by December 1, 2008. Also, the
Y dues are due and payable at the banquet, if you are not a member of the
Y. See the Smoke for details. We will be doing our Christmas project
shopping for a needy family following the banquet.
Arapaho:

The
Arapaho tribe completed their Christmas service project this past Saturday with
Dave Bietko's tribe cleaning up the yard of a recently deceased gentleman. Great
work was done by all of the Big and Little Braves.
We're looking forward
to the Father-Son Banquet Sun, Dec 14th at Camp Y-Noah from 1:00 until
approximately 4:30. We have a great program planned including a return of the
Zoo-mobile. We plan to start eating soon after 1:00 so don't be
late.

Blackhawk for sponsoring the punt, pass, & kick competition. Although it
was not perfect weather, those that attendedhad a great time! Navajo looks
forward to the banquet!

The
Mighty Cherokee had a great time at the Punt, Pass and Kick competition
especially with the cold and rain. Real football weather if you ask me. Thanks to the Blackhawk for putting on the
event.
As we
head into the holiday season we are all looking forward to the Father/Son
banquet and our community service event.
Happy Holidays to all from the Mighty Cherokee.
Comanche:
Tom “Fighting Eagle” Knoebel

The
Comanche had a nice wet time at the Punt Pass & Kick in November. The boys
had a fun time and we hope to do this event again next year. Congrats to Dylan
“Red Wolf” Knisely who placed 2nd in the competition for the 5-6 year
old age bracket; It seems to me he is MORE than qualified to start at QB for the
Browns!
FASCar is
coming up on Feb 7th. Car kits are now available for $5 each and
will be sold at each Nation event and Longhouse up to the race. Dads, you know
you’re going to procrastinate working on the car but you might as well get your
kits now and start procrastinating sooner! I really encourage everyone
to participate in this event; the boys really enjoy it and working on a car with
your son, helping him learn how to use tools, paint and complete a project
together… that is what Indian Guides is really all about.
Happy
birthday to the Comanche Sagittarians; Tucker “Big Hawk” Pearce – our eldest
little brave – who turns 11 on December 6th, Adam “Golden Eagle”
Schlosser who turns 7 on the 27th, and to myself who turns
“really-old” on Dec 9th.

Hey,
The Creek
are enjoying their Holiday Season as we hope all of you are as well. Please
read upcoming events and any questions, ask our new chief, BRAD BORNE!!!! Brad
will do a great job! I personally am very glad we have a dedicated, well
organized person to follow along in my big shoes!!! Once his euchre skills are
sharpened, he will make a great Creek Chief. Ex-Chief Brave Buckeye has to go
hide his stash from the mean Grinch trying to get it. He is called
“Redistribution”.

coming up in the next few months.

more importantly for the kids to develop

venturing out to hunt, gather, and occasionally Punt, Pass and Kick. The Tribe
is looking forward to the coming month and the Father-Son Banquet, were we’ll
receive our Manikiki headbands and first feathers! We are also working on a
December Service Project to help raise funds for YMCA children’s charities. We
will be serving at the Breakfast with Santa at the David Y and also taking part
in the Y Giving Tree, providing gifts for needy families. See you all at the
