2003 - 2004
The Nation budget for 03-04 was $13,100.00. The Nation officers for this year
were installed at the Fall Campout Fire Ceremony at Mohican Campgrounds.
The first event for this year was the October outing to Sluggers ad Putters in
Canal Fulton. This event is the first attended event for all new big and little
braves. The November event was the University of Akron football game against
Marshall University. This was a family event. The December event was our annual
Father/Son Banquet held at Guy’s Party Center, the entertainment was very
memorable with the little braves holding a giant snake and a baby alligator!
December also is our month for our Christmas Project. This year we sold
Christmas trees at the YMCA to raise money for Partners With Youth, which all
tribes participated in.
January’s event saw us Roller Skating in North Canton. This event was a family
event and well attended. February saw us at Guy’s Party Center for our
fundraiser, which was the annual reverse raffle. We raised all monies necessary
for the budget. February also saw us at Park Center Lanes for bowling. This was
a free event. March took us to the Fascar competition in Coventry. This was the
first year that we used the totally resurfaced track thanks to Tom Knoebel and
his father for all the hard work in refinishing the track and Steve Shepley for
getting the electronic finish line. The April event was our Swim Late Nighter
held at the Green YMCA and another free event. May was our Spring Campout at
Camp Christopher. The campout had a pretty major thunderstorm Friday night with
some Big Braves cars practically floating in the parking lot Saturday morning.
The weather held out for the fire ceremony Saturday night. In June we attended
the Akron Air Show, which was a family event. We also participated in the 2nd
annual Green Relay for Life. The Indian Guides and Princesses raised $2900.00
for the American Cancer Society and received a plaque for most money raised by
a youth organization. In July we attended the All-American Soap Box Derby,
another family event. August’s event was the Cleveland Zoo, another family
event. The event year ended in September with the Organizational Drive and our
Fall Campout. The Campout was held at Mohican Campground. The campout included
a canoe trip and a great pig roast. We also welcomed a new tribe to our Nation
at the campout the Kickapoo. Also in September was our 10th annual Manikiki
Golf Outing for the fathers.
Our Nation strength at this year’s start was 130 Little Braves and 101 Big Braves for a total of 231
Joe Friday Awards were given to Scott Summers and Steve Shepley. Ray Herrick,
