1996 - 1997

The Nation budget for 96 – 97 was $9,500.00. The Nation officers for this year were installed at the Fall Campout Fire Ceremony at Camp Y-Noah.

The First event for this year was the Ghoul Walk held at Camp Y-Noah. This event is the first attended event for all new Big and Little Braves. The November event was roller-skating at Springfield Roller Rink. This was a family event. The December event was our Annual Banquet held at Thomastown Party Center. December also is our month for our Christmas Project, which was participated by all tribes. Thank you. At the start of the new calendar year we saw some new events. January’s event saw us at Akron U for our first ever basketball game. This event was a family event and well attended. February saw us at Guy’s Party Center for our fundraiser, which was a reverse raffle. We raised all monies necessary for the budget along with the help of those tribes who elected to gather their share of the budget in other ways. February also saw us at Barberton Natatorium for a free swimming event. March saw another change this year. Our swim overnighter was not held at the central YMCA. We elected to make this a Swim Latenighter and moved it to the Canton Jewish Center. April took us to miniature golfing at Rolling Greens in Uniontown. May was our Spring Campout held at Camp Y-Noah. In June we attended another new event, Akron Aeros baseball which was a family event. In July we had our family picnic at Pine Valley Lake Park. August’s event was swimming at Dover Lake Park another Family event. The event year ended in September with the Organizational Drive and our Fall Campout. The Campout was held at Camp Manatoc. Also in September was our 6th annual Manikiki Golf Outing for the fathers.

Our Nation strength at this year’s start was 182 Little Braves and 137 Big Braves for a total of 319.

Joe Friday Awards were given to Rob Barnes, Brent Combs, Virgil Kline and Keith Lewis. Tim Dunigan, Denny Luck and Jerry Ramsey were the Outstanding Service Award winners.
